Frequently asked questions

Why does a license matter?
Since January 1, 2019, Minnesota law (Minnesota Statutes section 144.4961) requires anyone measuring or mitigating radon in a building they do not own to hold an MDH license. Licensed mitigation professionals must also be certified, follow state standards, and notify MDH of each mitigation job. Hiring unlicensed radon work forfeits those protections.
Where does this directory come from?
It is the Minnesota Department of Health's own list of licensed radon measurement and mitigation professionals, refreshed weekly with the date we last checked. Before hiring, verify the license is still current on MDH's site; MDH's list controls if the two ever disagree.
What does mitigation cost?
A typical Minnesota radon mitigation system (usually sub-slab depressurization: a pipe and fan that vent soil gas above the roof) runs roughly $1,500 to $2,500 depending on the home. A post-mitigation test should confirm the level dropped below 4 pCi/L.
